"This is a herring griddle pan. I got this one in Mayo but they were common all over the coast of Ireland. You would put it over the cinders of the fire and the juices would run into the little hole. That’s where children would dip their bread or spud. An old saying went “Dip in the dip but leave your herring for your father”."
